Studio Activities
Annual Spring Studio Recital
Medisky Oboe Studio features a studio recital at the end of each school year, and all students are invited to perform solos and play in the oboe choir finale piece. Performing is a rewarding part of being a musician, and this is a great opportunity for students to share what they have learned and to play with other oboists!

Oboe Dojo
Oboe Dojo is a fun spin on the martial arts model of earning belts as students progress and achieve specific technical requirements. Instead of belts, students earn ribbons that they can collect and attach to their cases.

Fall Challenges
Each Fall term kicks off with a studio-wide activity or technique challenge to work on the foundations of oboe playing. Depending on the year, students may focus on learning scales, arpeggios, thirds, or other activities such as an etude challenge, and Deliberate Practice Roulette. In technique challenge years, students pass playing tests in their lessons to earn points to win one of three prizes, but everyone is a winner because scales, arpeggios, and thirds are so much fun!

WYSO Mock Auditions
Each spring I hold 1-2 mock auditions for students to practice performing their WYSO audition materials. Everyone performs their solos, audition excerpts & scales, and sight-reading in front of the group. This a good chance to work on tempering nerves, and to practice performing a variety of things in a short amount of time.
