NIU Double Reed Day

DeKalb, IL

Start your school year off right at the 2025 Double Reed Day at the NIU School of Music! All participants will work with NIU double reed faculty Dr. Laura Medisky (oboe) and Prof. Carol Rosing (bassoon), and participate in masterclasses, the double reed ensemble, and our final concert. Participants can also visit with our exhibitors — Midwest Musical Imports and Oboe Chicago — and meet new people while they spend a fun day surrounded by other double reed players!

Oboists and bassoonists of all ages and levels are welcome. Whether you’re a beginner, an experienced player, or a music educator, there will be something for everyone!

9 a.m. – Check-in & exhibits
9:30 a.m. – Welcome recital
10 a.m. – Double reed ensemble
11 a.m. – Masterclasses
12 p.m. – Lunch & exhibits
1 p.m. – Masterclasses
2 p.m. – Double reed ensemble
2:30 p.m. – Final concert & exhibits

There is a $35 event registration fee that includes lunch for the participant. Registration deadline is Monday, Sept. 8, 2025.
